Recontextualizing Saint Series

Materials: Multimedia + Clothing

The Recontextualizing Saints series drew inspiration from the use of oriental references during the Renaissance period, as seen in works such as Gentile Bellini's Madonna and Child Enthroned and William Morris' textile designs. These appropriated images of iconic saints from the Middle East, Portugal, and India were captured as photographed performance pieces. The works reference existing statues and Google images of these saints, as recognized by the Catholic Church. Each saint's unique story of martyrdom was used to generate narratives for each piece.
