Nature in Motion

Sand Carpets

Ephemeral sand installations are created by hand pouring sand to form hybrid carpets that feature a collage of motifs representing a multi-cultural identity. These installations are temporary, existing only for a short period of time before they are blurred away by the walking audience. The process of creating these installations requires a great deal of skill and precision, as the sand must be arranged in just the right way to create the desired effect. Each installation is a unique work of art that reflects the creativity of motifs merging into one another. These installations can be found in a variety of settings, from public spaces, to art galleries, and they are a fascinating way to explore the intersection of cultures.

Digital Immersive Carpets

Transforming carpets created through digital scans of the local flora of Vancouver is a unique and creative way to bring nature into a new perspective. The patterns that emerge from the scans are then used to create animated carpets that grow. the movement of changing carpets is not only beautiful but also meaningful because the surrounding flora is always evolving, especially when they adapt to invasive species. The process of creating these animated rugs involves using cutting-edge technology to digitally scan the flora and then translate those images into intricate patterns as moving rugs. The result is a stunning piece of installation that submerges the viewer into a space where the floor moves organically.

Sculptural Animation

An experiential method of walking over sharp plaster replications of sea shells was used to install a carpet. These shells have been carefully arranged to create a visually stunning design that is enhanced by a video projection on the carpet. The shells themselves turn to dust, which further accentuates the projection and creates an even more dynamic effect. This innovative approach to carpet installation demonstrates how creative thinking can take something as mundane as a carpet and turn it into a work of art.

Motility as a Community

Could we envision a world where we don't just move, but instead stay still and grow in symbiosis with others? The idea of Algae and Fungi working together in harmony is fascinating. This relationship could be applied to various industries, from agriculture to energy production, and could have a positive impact on the environment. Perhaps it's time we explore the potential of staying still and growing together, just like Algae and Fungi.

Confluence

The animation depicts the growth of hyphae and its intricate network. The animation highlights the importance of connectivity and cooperation among the various elements that make up the hyphae. The viewer is able to witness the interdependence of the smaller parts, each playing a crucial role in the formation of the whole.

Nature Overlapping Nurture

This linoleum reduction relief printmaking series evokes a sense of fear and guilt associated with religion. It reminds us of the inevitable reality of life where nature has the power to decompose a body, regardless of the individual's identity or accomplishments.

Sound Journeys

Using a combination of sound and vision, I have developed videos that allows us to escape into different spaces as we walk visually. Often, the hustle and bustle of our cities, the constant flicker of lights, and the prevalence of technology and crime can distract us from the simple beauty of the present moment. My technique enables us to block out these distractions and focus on the harmonious possibilities that surround us. By immersing ourselves in sound and visual stimuli, we can drift into a state of mindfulness and fully appreciate the beauty of our surroundings.
